THE SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE: SPELLING RULE

When a verbs end  in S, SH, CH, O, Y, Z add ES to the 3rd person singular 
 ( he, she, it).
Example:


Do - does
Kiss - kisses
Wish - wishes
Watch - watches
Box - boxes
Buzz - buzzes
Go - goes
Fish - fishes
Miss - misses
Catch - catches
Listen - listens
Write - writes
Play - plays
Dance - dances
Sing - sings
Talk - talks


 When a verb ends in Y and the previous letter is a consonant change the Y to i and add ES.
Study - studies
When verb ends in Y and the previous letter is a vowel add S to the 3rd person singular.
Play - plays
Fly - flies
Buy - buys
Cry - cries
Reply - replies
Pay - pays
Say - says
Lay - lays
